My latest session was very special considering I had such an amazing maternity session with their momma. There is so much love in this family that it would take an author a thousand years to even comprehend how to put it on paper. It’s indescribable, really.

I’m an auntie to two very unique and rambunctious twin boys, and I was pleased to learn that these baby girls’ mom goes to great lengths to see that they are treated as individuals rather than a unit. They entered this world early 6 months ago and against great odds, and I know that their parents will strive to treat them just as special and courageous as they have already shown themselves to be.

Lollipops and Lovies

One of my favorite little girls was back for a Christmas session last month, and I couldn’t believe how big she’s grown! She was running all over the place, so we definitely got a workout keeping up with her. I had just finished some fake lollipops, so she was the first to get to try them out. Not bad, huh?

Walk About

My mom always like to go on “walk abouts” around the two acres where I grew up. She would check on the tree saplings and her horses, possibly even stopping to chat with a neighbor. It reminds me of a time when we weren’t too busy to observe our surroundings, take it all in and really enjoy it.

This little boy takes me back to times like that. He was absolutely enthralled with the world around him. I could barely keep up! Right in the middle of my session, we happened upon a woman feeding the park squirrels. I think that every squirrel in the park and their cousins from another nearby park were all there. It seemed like hundreds. And this little guy couldn’t wait to check them out.

My brother and his family are up next. My nephew turned 3 months old last month, and we snapped a few Christmas photos at their house as well.

This one reminds me so much of us growing up in North Dakota. My brother and I would race down the sharp incline on our driveway…and sled down it when it was piled deep with snow. Both my brother and I have kids that look so much like us as kids, it should be a crime.

I really liked this next one, and it will probably embarrass my brother and his wife, but we’ve been doing that for years. Why stop now?

The gummy grins get me every time.

Well, every shot can’t be perfect.

Catching up

Well, I’ve finished my last holiday session edits, so I finally have some time to update my blog. Prepare for update overload! I have a picture of this beautiful family on my last post, but I wanted to share some more of their darling little girl. She was chubby in all the right places. I just loved it.

Her daddy is a Tulsa firefighter, and I love that he had his helmet in the car, so we could snap a few pics. I swear, I want to cry every time I see this pictures. A little girl’s daddy is always her hero, but her daddy is everybody’s hero.

When I was setting up this next basket shot, we had a visitor trying to crash our shoot. Rather than shoo him away, I let him stay. They were enamored with each other. It was probably one of the funniest things that’s happened to me on a job.

I had the pleasure of photographing the niece of a wonderful client of mine and her family. The weather was absolutely perfect, and the girls even got into it with me. Just call me the tutu and ginormous sucker lady. Anything for these kiddos!

Even mom and dad got into it. I know how it feels when you are constantly behind the camera, and this is just a reminder that I need a new photo of me and the hubs. My last one with him was in 1999!

Hello, baby!

Ah, finally a newborn! But this isn’t just any newborn – it’s my 2 week old nephew, Kolby. That brings my nephew/niece tally to boys:8, girls:0. We’ll find out next month if another sister-in-law is going to bring that coveted niece into the family. I have all these tutus in my arsenal and the only girl I have to dress up is my own daughter. I’m so ready for a niece.

But for now, we’re enjoying Mr. Kolby. Isn’t he so handsome?

Travelin’ Through

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph a sweet young boy that I first photographed at two months and then at six months. This time he was 14 months, and just as much a heartbreaker as ever. His mom is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, and I just love how much these parents adore their little boy. I love this age, and he is no exception.

Of course, every shot can’t be perfect. You set up the shot, and the backlighting is just right, mom’s hair is blowing softly in the breeze and then…

…somebody is just not feeling the moment.

I, however, crack up hysterically. My job, it is so much fun.

I was pleasantly surprised when this family agreed to meet me in Chandler, thereby shaving off about an hour from my usual commute to Tulsa. I also brought my daughter as an experiment. Kids love kids, they are absolutely fascinated by them. My daughter, however, was fascinated with the little toy car that she has claimed as her own even though Whitecotton Studio claimed it first…on last year’s tax return. But we had a good time, and no one was run over on main street Chandler, OK.

And this one was fun to edit with a funky texture. I love the surrealism of it…like stepping back in time.

And finally, a little bit of history to share with you. This gazebo was erected as part of Oklahoma’s Centennial celebration of 2007. It was such a beautiful little, peaceful spot…even right there in Chandler, OK.

I had the wonderful opportunity to photography a client I first met last December. Their baby girl just celebrated her first birthday, and I am in awe of what a beautiful little girl she has become.

This was of those morning shoots that I always dread because I am not a morning person at all. I’m more of a mid-morning/noonish kind of person. Ha ha. Combine that with an hour-and-a-half drive to Tulsa, and you have a tired mama who secretly wishes for a coffee IV. But you know what? That morning light was totally worth it.

Today, I leave you with the typical one-year-old shot…which usually involves a quick exit to the latest and greatest happening in their ever-expanding and incredible world.

One of my recent sessions was for the family of a very sweet friend that I met at a local mom’s group. She shares my love of photography, and I was excited when she emailed to book her session. I cannot get enough of her son’s baby blues.

One thing that she and I have in common is that we are/were our own general contractors on our homes. Her home has been finished for awhile and mine…well, we’ve got a few months to go. Her parents have also entered the realm of home building, and we scheduled their session at the new home site. I just loved their layout so much that it almost made me want to tear down and start over…the operative word being *almost*.

Last fall during our meetups, she would give me updates on her parents new purchases for their grandsons. To me, it almost sounded like they were not only going to build a house, but a private theme park as well. “So Robyn, mom just called and they’re in Arkansas. They bought a zip line.”

“A zip what?” Of course I had to ask about it when I arrived, but the zip line’s debut won’t be for awhile. I suppose dad will have to do for the time being.

It was such a pleasure to meet this wonderful family, and I wish them all the best in their endeavors. It makes me so happy to see families live so close together that they can spend time together and create new adventures. Myself included. 😉
